Hot Water
Hot Water Repairs & Installation
No hot water is one of those faults where the repair is often small and the diagnosis is the whole job. An element, a thermostat, a tempering valve or a pilot assembly are all straightforward once you know which one it is.
We repair and replace electric, gas and heat pump hot water systems across the southern Gold Coast, and we will tell you honestly when a unit is worth repairing and when you would be throwing money at it.

What the symptom usually means
- No hot water at all from an electric unit — commonly a failed element or thermostat, sometimes the circuit
- Hot water that runs out much faster than it used to — often a failed lower element, so only the top of the tank heats
- Water that is warm rather than hot everywhere — frequently the tempering valve rather than the heater itself
- Rusty or discoloured hot water — the tank's internal lining or sacrificial anode has gone
- Water pooling under or around the tank — a tank leak is terminal; a leaking valve or connection is not
- A gas unit that will not stay lit, or lights and then drops out
- Banging, knocking or kettling noises from the tank as it heats
- The relief valve dripping constantly, which is a valve or pressure problem, not normal operation
Repair or replace
Repair is usually the first question
If a tank is sound and reasonably young, replacing an element, thermostat, valve or gas control is far cheaper than a new system. We check the tank itself before quoting anything larger.
When replacement is the honest answer
Once the tank is leaking from the body, or it is well past its service life and showing rust in the water, repairs stop making sense — you would be paying labour on a unit that will fail again. We will say so rather than selling you a part.
Choosing the replacement
Electric, gas and heat pump all suit different households. It depends on how many people use hot water and when, whether gas is already connected, and where the unit can physically go. We will walk through the trade-offs for your place rather than fitting whatever is on the van.
Tempering valves and compliance
New installations have requirements around delivered water temperature to bathrooms, and relief valve drain lines have to be run correctly. These are the details that get missed on a cheap install and cause problems at sale or inspection time.
Salt air, if you are near the beach
Close to the coast, external hot water units and their fittings corrode faster than the same unit inland. It is worth knowing when you choose where a replacement goes and what it is made of.
Common questions
How long should a hot water system last?
It varies with the type, the water, and whether the sacrificial anode was ever replaced. What matters more than the number is the condition: a tank leaking from the body is finished regardless of age, and a sound tank with a failed component is usually worth repairing regardless of age.
My hot water ran out much quicker than usual — is the whole unit gone?
Often not. Electric storage units typically have two elements, and when the lower one fails only the top portion of the tank heats. You get hot water, just much less of it. That is a component replacement, not a new system.
Can you replace a hot water system the same day?
Often yes, depending on the type and what is needed. We offer same-day service and will tell you upfront when a particular unit has to be ordered in.
Is a heat pump worth it?
It depends on your household's usage pattern and where the unit can be installed, since they need airflow and make some noise. They use significantly less electricity than a standard electric element, but they are not the right answer for every site. Worth a conversation rather than a blanket yes or no.
